Magnox Silo Liquor “Crack Under Control.” note: it isn’t

How does the Nuclear Industry get away with wanting to produce ever more and ever hotter nuclear wastes when they cannot contain the existing wastes. The Magnox Swarf silo is leaking - from an unknown point - part of the silo is below ground. United Utilities are abstracting drinking water for West Cumbria from boreholes …

NEW Petition to the UK Prime Minister: A Call to Stop Geological Nuclear Dump Plans.

Our new petition set up just last night has already received dozens of signatures - we have a long way to go before we get to the 10,000 signatures required for a debate in Parliament - but the UK does need to talk about the unwanted, scientifically unworkable and deeply dangerous Nuclear Dump Plan! The …

A Letter to the “Working Groups”: Withdraw from the Corrupt, Dangerous Nuclear Dump Plan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYP5_lmNBhA A Former Sellafield Boss has put forward Ghyll Scuar Quarry as the possible "entrance" to a so called Geological Disposal Facility ie a nuclear dump for heat generating nuclear wastes- the plan is for it to go out under the Irish Sea. Aggregate Industries who run the Quarry have nothing to do with the …

What Has Happened/Is Happening at Taishan, China’s EDF Run Nuclear Plant?

Below is a press release from the Nuclear Free Local Authorities who have asked the UKs Nuclear Regulatory body to investigate ...our own experience with the Office for Nuclear Regulation is that they err on the side of the industry - maybe this time they will err on the side of finding out the truth …

Call to Action: Contact the SD Water Management Board Today!

Letter sent today opposing uranium mining in South Dakota. Please do support the Black Hills Clean Water Alliance :

sent by email: Ron.Duvall@state.sd.us

Dear Ron Duvall,

I am writing on behalf of Radiation Free Lakeland in Cumbria, UK to ask that the State of South Dakota’s Water Management Board do not restart hearings for three water permits for PowerTechs proposed uranium mine in Custer and Fall River Counties.

Here in Cumbria, UK we have Sellafield, the world’s riskiest nuclear waste site and it all starts with ripping uranium out of the ground, causing water pollution and a chain of events that leads to irreversible contamination of water, land and air for generations to come from all stages of the nuclear fuel cycle.

We understand that in 2013, the hearings on the permits started, but were then stopped. At the time, Powertech said the hearings could restart when its federal permits had been lined up. The federal permits were issued, but are currently either suspended or under a lawsuit.

Despite this Powertech has recently asked the WMB to re-start the hearing on the water permits. If the hearings were re-started, and then just one of the federal permits was struck down, the state would have wasted money and time on a useless hearing for a project that should not start under any circumstances. Please do NOT re-start the hearing on Powertech’s water permits.

Thank you

yours sincerely,

Marianne Birkby

Email the South Dakota’s Water Management Board today!

Tell them NOT to Re-Start Powertech’s uranium mining permit process.

Powertech Uranium asked the State of South Dakota’s Water Management Board (WMB) to give it three water permits for its proposed uranium mine in Custer and Fall River Counties.

In 2013, the hearings on the permits started, but were then stopped. At the time, Powertech said the hearings could restart when its federal permits had been lined up. The federal permits were issued, but are currently either suspended or under a lawsuit.

Nonetheless, Powertech has recently asked the WMB to re-start the hearing on the water permits. If the hearings were re-started, and then just one of the federal permits was struck down, the state would have wasted money and time on a useless hearing for a project that could never start.

Write the WMB and ask them NOT to re-start the…

Is Silloth and the Solway Plain the target once again?

No area in Cumbria should be in the frame – not the Irish Sea, not Millom, not Silloth. The new and dishonest RWM/CoRWM “process” is aimed not only at bribery of those souls who can be persuaded to go along with the diabolic plan and exclusion of those thoughtful voices opposed, but also at divide and conquer “not here, there” Radiation Free Lakeland and our dedicated campaign Lakes Against Nuclear Dump say “NOT ANYWHERE”. Call a halt to “Delivery” of a deep nuclear dump Now.

Cumbria Trust

As we highlighted back in January, Allerdale has been volunteered by an individual as a potential site for burying the nation’s nuclear waste in a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF)

Over the last few months Cumbria Trust has met on a number of occasions with the developer, Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) and with a Working Group in Allerdale which has been tasked with defining a search area within Allerdale or under the seabed off the coast of Allerdale.

In this latest search process the Lake District is excluded, and when that is combined with areas previously excluded due to the presence of certain minerals and aquifers, the available onshore area in Allerdale becomes rather limited. The map below shows these exclusions in pink.Combined with the recent suggestion from RWM and the geologist working for the previous process, that the Mercia Mudstone may be a suitable host rock, this leads us to…
