Back in March we exposed the “search” by Sellafield to find car parks up to 16 miles south of the nuclear waste site, including in the Lake District National Park. The village that is seen as being most accommodating to Sellafield – indeed almost synonymous with the nuclear waste site has had enough of the nuclear industry taking the acquiescence of the locals for granted .
The following letter from Seascale Parish Council has been posted on the local facebook group and was written to Avison Young -who are acting on behalf of Sellafield Ltd in the “search” for ever more car parking for the world’s most dangerous nuclear waste site in the surrounding towns and villages.

Good morning
Your email has been circulated to the rest of council and below is the feedback, not just from the council, but also the frequently made opinions of its residents.
Some days the Seascale village car park is completely full and now the warmer weather is coming it will also bring visitors to the beach etc. Sadly, because it is filled Sellafield workers, it’ll be mayhem down there.
Sellafield employees cannot park ANYWHERE for free in Whitehaven or Egremont, so the message needs to be clearly sent out, once again, that Seascale village car park is funded by Seascale residents. It is not an overspill for the site.
It is a multi billion company, tell them to build their own car park.
The Seascale village car park is part funded by the residents for their use and for tourists to the village, both use and enable the local businesses to continue. Sellafield has a contract for 45 spaces. However, ever since it failed to proactively organise suitable off site parking facilities for all its employees and contractors, before they stopped its on site parking, it has now not only resulted in the whole of this car park being filled by its workers, but also indiscriminate and selfish parking around the village. Sellafield has given no consideration to the fact that the parishioners can no longer use their own car park and some of those who live opposite rely on this to park their own vehicles. Also tourists now have nowhere to park and this is having a detrimental impact on the local businesses. Any goodwill has been lost and it is time Sellafield took on their own responsibilities and ceased offloading it onto the surrounding villages and expecting them to provide free car parking for hundreds of their workers.

UPDATE 20th Oct 2022
Seascale Parish Council have U-Turned on their letter to Avison Young asking that Sellafield “took on their own responsibilities and ceased offloading it onto the surrounding villages and expecting them to provide free car parking for hundreds of their workers”.
Did they get “whipped in” by Sellafield???
