Another Bomb from the MOD Washes Up on a West Cumbrian Beach Near Sellafield.

From the Whitehaven News 17th June 2022

“Charges were set, and while the Coastguard watched for walkers in the area, the item was disposed of in the time-honoured fashion. Teams stood down shortly after and returned to their respective stations. It is 12 months to the day that we were in the exact same place, doing exactly the same thing.”

The bomb could have come from Eskmeals MOD which continues to fire ordnance into the sea for “testing” purposes – or it could have been washed up on Seascale from Beaufort Dyke where “An estimated 1.17 million tonnes of conventional weapons and chemical weapons have been deposited.”

A comment on this latest bomb washing up on West Cumbrian Beaches from the Radiation Free Lakeland facebook page sums it up expertly :

“Just what we need on a coastline with the near shore Drigg Nuclear waste Dump, waste discharge and cooling water intake pipes relied on for the safe functioning of Sellafield! What happens to the the man-made radioactivity in the adjacent beach and sea water when such an explosion is initiated? Was there a wind blowing to disperse the radioactive spray and micro particles? Do those responsible for the bomb disposal squad and coastguards and any one downwind of the explosion have any idea? Have the authorities bothered to think about the issues? My bet is NO they do not!
