We will be in the area of the “Look Out Clock” in Workington Town Centre tomorrow from 1pm to 3pm approx
There will be the petition to sign and banners to display
Join us – bring a banner – show resistance to the crazy plan to store “low level” radioactive scrap metal at the Port of Workington.
So called low level radioactive waste is not safe – so not safe that much of the waste in the proposed containers will end up being “disposed of” at Drigg (Copeland got £10M downpayment for hosting Drigg with £1M every year the dump is operational) or even at Sellafield to await a deep nuclear dump. The Environment Agency has given permission for this diabolic plan and Cumbria County Council have washed their hands of any responsibility at all. Each of the 80 containers could languish at the Port for up to a year (or more – Cyclife/EDF the company behind this plan monitor themselves).
The Petition to Sign is Here
I am afraid Workington is going to become the new Drigg, they have not been spending all that money in developing the port for our benefit
