TODAY – TWEET/EMAIL YOUR MP TO STOP NUCLEAR DUMP PLAN

Vote Now NO 2NUCLEAR DUMP - YES2Democracy
Vote Now NO 2NUCLEAR DUMP – YES2Democracy

STILL TIME ….We Need ONE MP TO SAY NO!! and then it may get full debate.

TODAY in a back room deal the government will finalise their plan to make Nuclear Dumping a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.  That means that there would be no meaningful opportunity for  the public to say NO to a nuclear dump underneath their beloved land.  There would only be a carefully selected “test of public support” i.e. carefully selected groups (much like the government whips carefully select these back room parliamentary committees)

PLEASE LOBBY YOUR MP – TWEET – EMAIL and ask them to ensure that Democracy is not dumped by OPPOSING THIS BY ANY MEANS WITHIN (OR WITHOUT) THEIR POWER.  Ask them to kick up a stink – to make some noise – to make A LOT OF NOISE!

If this had been law during the last round of “Implementation of Geological Disposal”  the plan would now be underway.  Same goes for the Keekle Head plan for intermediate level waste – there would have been NO PUBLIC INQUIRY – even Jamie Reed MP was opposed to Keekle Head – but that would have been of no matter – under the NSIP law it would have gone through!

13. INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING
No debate (Standing Order No. 118(6))
Secretary Edward Davey
That the draft Infrastructure Planning (Radioactive Waste Geological Disposal Facilities) Order 2015, which was laid before this House on 12 January, be approved.
Notes:
If this item is opposed after 7.00pm, the division will be deferred.

NOTE:  Some MPs are replying saying that councils will have a say and that there will be a test of publi…c support…MPs ARE BEING MISLED. Councils will have no meaningful say and the test of public support will be manufactured.

    Hi Marianne

I wrote to Tony Cunningham (our local MP) about this some weeks ago and received a reply.

He said that ‘although he was allowed to attend the meeting and take part in the debate as he was not a member of the committee he was not allowed to take part in any vote.’

‘In the event, there was no vote at the end of the meeting and the two orders were accepted.’

The letter was over 3 pages long and I can send you a copy if you wish.

And the fact is that he is retiring at the end of this term and will not be standing at the next general election.

    Regards Jacqueline Donnelly

    1. Thanks Jaqueline! The fact that he is not standing again means that he should be able to speak his mind ….and although he is pro nuclear surely he is opposed to the ditching of democracy in order to dump nuclear wastes? Just heard that a group of Liberal and Labour MPs objected today which means that this will not go through on the nod but will be debated next Wednesday. Tony Cunningham now has a chance to speak up and protect the democratic right of Cumbrians to say no to the geological dumping of nuclear wastes!!
