We are delighted to announce that Arnie Gundersen of Fairewinds in the USA will be speaking in Keswick on the 11th March. The talk is just one of the many events worldwide marking the fourth anniversary of the ongoing Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.

“WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT MOORSIDE“ 11th March at The Skiddaw Hotel 7.30 – 9.30pm

As well as speaking on the Moorside plan for three AP1000 reactors, Arnie Gundersen will inform us about the current situation regarding the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico. There will be an opportunity for Q & A in what promises to be a very interesting and informative evening.

We are delighted that Dr Ian Fairlie will also be speaking. Dr Ian Fairlie is an independent consultant on radioactivity in the environment. Dr Fairlie will inform us on health impacts.

ARNIE GUNDERSEN, Chief Engineer of Fairewinds, holds both a Bachelor (’71) and Master Degree (’72) in Nuclear Engineering and a Nuclear Reactor Operator’s License (AEC # 3014). Formerly he was a Senior Vice President for an Nuclear Regulatory Commission Licensee and a member of its Radiation Safety Committee. During Government Oversight Congressional Hearings in 1993 concerning the NRC’s deliberately botched inspection activities related to Arnie’s whistleblower concerns, then NRC Chairman Ivan Selin told Senator John Glenn, “ …it is true — everything Mr. Gundersen said was absolutely right; he performed quite a service.” Maggie and Arnie Gundersen and the Fairewinds crew now perform nuclear engineering analysis for various States, NGO’s and law firms.

DR IAN FAIRLIE is an independent consultant on radioactivity in the environment. Dr Fairlie has degrees in radiation biology, and his doctoral studies at the Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine in London and at Princeton University, US examined nuclear waste technologies. Dr Fairlie has been a consultant to several Government Departments and was the scientific Secretary to the Government’s Committee Examining Radiation Risks of Internal Emitters (www.cerrie.org). He has also acted as consultant to the European Parliament, WHO, IPPNW, environment NGOs, and local authorities. Dr Fairlie’s main areas of expertise are the health impacts of nuclear fuel reprocessing, nuclear power stations and nuclear wastes. For more information please contact rafl@mariannebirkby.plus.com
