Dear Ms Kate Lawson
Lowick Wind Turbine –
Land Near Roerigg Tarn, Lowick Common, Nr Lowick Green
Radiation Free Lakeland FULLY SUPPORT the application for the installation of a single wind turbine 85 metres high.
As a voluntary group opposed to nuclear and profligate fossil fuel use we have made sure our electricity provider is 100% renewable.
Visual impact of wind turbines is of course undeniable – and they inevitably become landmarks in much the same way as Hoad monument is a landmark to remember the achievements of Sir John Barrow. The difference is that windturbines are landmarks that are not faux beacons but real work horse kinetic landmarks making a valuable contribution by providing electricity free from radioactive and chemical emissions. Radiation Free Lakeland is South Lakes based with strong family ties to the Ulverston area.
Radiation Free Lakeland members have given our support to other renewable energy projects in Cumbria including Lambrigg, Armistead and the falsely demonised, wasted opportunity of Whinash.
We sincerely hope that common sense will prevail for the above and for the following reasons:
• It will make a contribution to the reduction of carbon emissions
• The single turbine would be sensitively sited
• Wind energy is clean, safe and will help give the UK back its energy independence and security
• The turbine is not a departure from the local plan or a major development
We urge you to support this planning application.
Marianne Birkby on behalf of Radiation Free Lakeland
