The three Councils will be holding their meetings on the same day at the same time, meeting separately to ensure independent decisions!! Cumbria’s Cabinet looked likely to say NO which would have brought the nasty juggernaught to a standstill.
This “independent decision” is now meaningless following the summoning of the three leaders to a meeting with Baroness Verma who is in charge of the government’s ‘Implementation of Geological Disposal, arms have been twisted to ensure a 3 month delay.
Radiation Free Lakeland will be going to the Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet meeting to ask WHY the delay? We will also present the results of a poll done in Carlisle. The majority of Parish and Town Councils have asked to pull out, the County should honour this and say NO NOW – why wait 3 months? Government is about to pour more £millions into PR “more than easing concerns.” Will those scientists blowing the whistle receive government money to ensure a level playing field?
Lets get as many people to the 3 meetings as possible. The Cumbria Cabinet Meeting starts at 10am – BE there for 9am with banners showing strong opposition to Nuke Dump and to the 3 month delay. People can request to address the Cumbria Cabinet (or Allerdale and Copeland Executive) under public participation.
